Woodwind Tuning Tips by Harlon Lamkin

Editor's note: This week, we are featuring a fantastic set of woodwind tuning tendancies and helpful hints. Below is a sample screenshot. To view the complete list of tips, print the PDF chart.

Harlon Lamkin was Director of Bands at Owasso High School in Oklahoma from 1973-1989.  During his tenure the band received superior ratings at every contest they attended.  They marched in the Rose Bowl Parade in 1985 and 1989 and won numerous concert band festivals throughout the United States.  They also consistently placed the highest number of students in the Oklahoma All-State band annually.  Mr. Lamkin passed away in 2006.  The Owasso Band tradition continues to this day led by David Gorham.  They have marched in 3 more Rose Bowl Parades,  been a BOA Grand National Finalist Band, a BOA Super Regional Grand Champion in St. Louis, performed twice at the Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago, and will march in the  St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland in March of 2014.
