The music business is and has been a great industry to be a part of. Mozingo Music was in business for 50 years, started by Don Mozingo in 1972. It provided for his family and continues to do so in this next phase of retail music business. I have been in some sort of music business my entire life. It started when I was 3 years old wanting to play drums. My father, being a band director at the time, insisted that I play something else before I started drums. So, I played violin for a couple of years, piano and trombone. After learning more about music my father said "ok, it's time you started drums." I was 12 years old at the time and have played drums and percussion ever since. I tell this beginning story because many of us in music have experienced something very similar.
When Palen Music Center reached out and inquired about the possibility of an acquisition, my brother David and I were very interested. After a year of talking and meeting, we finally came to an agreement that worked for everyone. The entire process, and working with another like-minded company, has been an incredible journey. We are all family and it's great when two family run businesses can use their similar core values to accomplish getting kids started in music. The music industry is small compared to other types of industries. Everyone knows everyone and we compete with each other, learn from each other, and help each other. One of the best things through this transition has been getting to know Palen Music Center, their values, their staff, and the owners. My brother and I ran a great company and it's been awesome to see how another great company does business.
I can honestly say that after the deal was signed, I was super excited to share with everyone that I'd joined the Palen Music team. I am confident in all aspects working with PMC, offering what I believe is the best in the business where we focus on the kids and give them an opportunity to play an instrument for a lifetime. I look forward to continued success with these great people. Music is fun!
