Recently, two band directors from Oklahoma gave a clinic at Midwest. The clinic was entitled "It's Not 'Just' Middle School Band!" - Buying in to a Culture of Excellence From Day One. The slideshow is presented here for everyone's benefit.

Megan Perkins is in her eleventh year of teaching and eighth year as an assistant band director for Stillwater Public Schools. She received a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma in 2011 and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri. Megan conducts the 8th grade band, teaches beginning clarinet, beginning flute, and assists with the seventh grade band and high school bands. Her bands consistently receive the OSSAA Outstanding Achievement Award at concert contests. Her 8th grade band was selected as an OkMEA Honor Band in 2017 and 2020. Mrs. Perkins teaches private clarinet lessons and has had numerous students selected to All-Region and All-State Bands. She was the 2016-2017 OkMEA Young Music Educator of the Year and was also awarded the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Young Bandmaster Award in 2017. She is an active clinician throughout Oklahoma and has presented clinics at OkMEA and The Midwest Clinic in 2022. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Secondary Music. Mrs. Perkins lives in Perkins with her husband, Justin, and three stepsons, Noah, Cooper, and Louis.
Kyle Wiemar is in his fourteenth year of teaching and fourth with Owasso Public Schools in Owasso, Oklahoma. After studying music education at the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Wiemar began his teaching career in Yukon, Oklahoma from 2009 to 2015. In 2015, the Yukon 8th Grade Band was selected as an OkMEA Honor Band. That same year he was named Yukon Middle School's Teacher of the Year. From 2015 to 2019, Mr. Wiemar taught in Tomball, Texas as a junior high band director in the Tomball Independent School District. In 2016, he opened Creekside Park Junior High School serving as its first band director and Fine Arts Department Chair. Mr. Wiemar was named one of Creekside Park's first A+ Teachers of the Year in 2016. In the 2019 school year, he joined the Owasso Band Staff. He conducts the High School Symphonic Band 2, 8th Grade Symphonic Band, teaches beginning clarinet classes, and assists with the Pride of Owasso Marching Band. Ensembles under Mr. Wiemar's direction consistently receive the OSSAA Outstanding Achievement and UIL Sweepstakes Awards. He is an active clinician and presenter in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.
