Desperate Help Needed for Joplin Tornado Victims
It is hard to see any of the Joplin tornado coverage without feeling deep sympathy for all of the people affected. While the Joplin Palen Music Center location and staff was fortunate to escape damage, countless other families experienced loss of life, jobs, or property. Palen Music Center is requesting monetary donations and will match dollar-for-dollar any money received. The money will go directly to the Joplin relief effort through Convoy of Hope. In addition, Diana Williams and the rest of her Webb City staff is helping to organize supplies and other donations. Please read the letter below from Diana and consider getting your band students involved. Coordinate pick-up of items with your PMC road rep and we will get the items picked up and then trucked to Joplin. Thank you for your help in this tremendous time of need. --Eric

I just got off the phone with Rick Castor, band director at Joplin HS. He said that he has many families that have lost everything. Too many to count. The devastation is tremendous. There is a great need for his band students and their families. Webb City HS Band is opening up our room to take in donations. Please have your kids in your band go through their closets, their homes for household items that are needed to live, personal hygiene items, anything that people would need in survival mode. Please make sure the items are in new/good condition. It is my understanding that shoes/flip flops, underwear, and immediate survival items are needed now. Also, remember that summer is coming, please ask for summer clothing and pajamas.

Once you have collected your items, send me an email and we can meet up to collect the items from you. Whatever you and your program can provide would be greatly appreciated by these students and their families. If we "BAND TOGETHER" we can make a huge difference in the recovery efforts for these families. Monetary donations would also be accepted to help the families in need. The housing market here was pretty slim, but now with all of the homes demolished and the apartments ripped apart - there will be so many displaced families. Please pray for this area and the people in need.

As of now, Joplin HS is still missing staff who have not been accounted for. Rick said he has heard from the majority of the kids in band and have been accounted for. Please pray for their safety and health. Thank you for your help and contact me if you have any questions. If you want to forward this so we can get more bands involved, that would be awesome.

Thank you,
