W. Francis McBeth (1933-2012)

We were saddened to learn of the passing of William Francis McBeth on Friday, January 6, 2012.

Dr. McBeth served for 39 years on the Ouachita Baptist University faculty in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and retired in 1996 as Professor Emeritus of Music and Distinguished University Professor. He also was a world-renowned composer, former conductor of the Arkansas Symphony, and Composer Laureate of the State of Arkansas. In 1962, McBeth conducted the Arkansas All-State Band, with future president Bill Clinton playing in the tenor saxophone section. McBeth received the ASCAP Special Award every year since 1965. Truly a giant in our profession.

McBeth is survived by wife Mary Sue White and two children.
