The PMC Quick Note is part of our mission to support the lives of band directors across the Midwest. The Quick Note contains helpful tips and suggestions from area directors, spotlights on area college and university band programs, calendars of upcoming events, advocacy articles promoting music education, links to helpful web resources, and much more.  Comments, suggestions, ideas, and articles are always welcome.

Cool Stuff From NAMM

The National Association of Music Merchants convention always offers an enormous array of new and exciting products. The show is held each January at the Anaheim convention center and is the largest music trade show in the world. Over 87,000 people attend the show each year.

Although there are thousands of products at the show, we identified two that caught our eye.

GigEasy iPad Mount

The GigEasy is an iPad mount that either fits onto a Manhasset music stand base or onto a microphone stand. You can also get GigEasy mounts that clamp to objects (like a marching tower). Once the iPad is clipped into the spring-loaded mount, it can be easily rotated and "snapped" into place in portrait or landscape view.

The clamps sell for $79, which is a little pricey but is well worth the money. I recommend the product because of its quality construction and the likelihood of heavy use. This is a product that will probably be used on a daily basis over a long period of time. All you need is an iPad2 and a Manhasset music stand base. (Note: There is also a model of this clamp sold for the same price for the original iPad.)

The next product pairs nicely with the GigEasy. It allows the user to turn pages on the iPad with footswitches. You pair the device with your iPad via Bluetooth and it operates on batteries. No cords....simple to use. The technology works with several dozen iPad applications and will also pair with a Bluetooth laptop.

You can scan your scores, drill charts, or sheet music into pdf format and then use the pedals to flip through the music. If you have downloaded print music from Hal Leonard online or several other online print dealers, the device will work as well. Once you see this in action, YOU WILL WANT ONE!

The AirTurn unit requires one of dozens of available applications to be downloaded for use. The recommended application

The AirTurn pedal system sells for $129.95.

Palen Music Center is offering a bundled special through Februar 29, 2012. If you order a GigEasy iPad mount (either for a microphone base or a Manhasset stand base) and an AirTurn pedal system, you can save $28.95. Orders must be submitted directly to Eric Matzat via email at

Bundle regular price $208.95. Special price $180.00. Price includes delivery to your school. iPad, music stands, microphone stands, and software sold separately.

Special Price for Mollard Batons

We have Mollard 14" P-series rosewood conducting batons available for an incredible price of $15 each while supplies last. Email orders to or visit with your PMC road representative.

Palen Music Center Named National Dealer of the Year

On Wednesday, January 18, 2012, Palen Music Center was named the national dealer of the year by the Alliance of Independent Music Merchants. We were humbled and surprised by this honor and appreciate all of the support from our customers and fellow retailers.
